TEMPLE VISIT PROGRAM FOR SCHOOLS
Welcome to Cambridge Zen Center's Temple Visit Program, an educational field trip designed specifically for students in the greater Boston area. Our program offers a unique educational experience that introduces students to meditation techniques, mindfulness practices, and the rich tradition of Zen Buddhism in a welcoming, non-denominational environment.
Perfect for: High school and university students exploring world religions, philosophy, wellness, and cultural studies. All students are welcome regardless of religious background.
Cambridge Zen Center, founded in 1973, is an affiliate of the internationally recognized Kwan Um School of Zen. Located just three blocks from Central Square in Cambridge, we have been serving the Boston metropolitan community for over 50 years, offering authentic Zen Buddhist training and meditation instruction.
Program Overview and Schedule
Program Duration: 1.5 - 2 hours
Group Size: 15 - 30 students (larger groups can be accommodated with advance notice)
Times: Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Safety & Supervision
Adult educators must accompany students for supervision. Adult supervision ratios following standard field trip guidelines recommended. For example: 1:10 for high school.
Booking Requirements
Minimum 4 weeks advance notice
Emergency contact information is required for all students
Please inform us if special accommodations are needed
Cancellation Policy
We understand that school schedules can change. Cancellations made at least a week in advance are accepted. Weather related reschedules can be accommodated.
What Students Should Know
Dress Code: Comfortable, modest clothing suitable for sitting meditation
Footwear: Students will remove shoes upon entering the building
Participation: All activities are optional
Materials: All materials provided; students may bring notebooks

Suggested Donation
$10 per student (minimum $150 per group)
This donation helps support our educational programs and temple maintenance. Financial assistance available for Title I schools or groups with demonstrated need.

No, our program is educational and cultural, focusing on meditation techniques and mindfulness practices that benefit students of all backgrounds. We respect all faith traditions and present Buddhist practices as one approach to wellness and stress management.
What if a student has religious objections?
Students are never required to participate in any activity that conflicts with their beliefs. They may observe, ask questions, or engage in alternative quiet activities during meditation periods.
Are there any physical requirements?
All meditation instruction accommodates different physical abilities. Students may sit in chairs or on cushions. We provide various seating options and modifications as needed.
