PRISON DHARMA PROGRAM
Facilitate Transformation
In existence since 2011, the mission of our Prison Dharma Program is to bring the transformative potential of meditation practice to prison inmates. It is modeled on the methods developed by Fleet Maul, the Founder of the Prison Dharma Network, and his guide “Path to Freedom” with a focus on Zen meditation as taught by Zen Master Seung Sahn.
Through Meditation
The prison program operates several weekly or bi-weekly sitting groups, in both female and male correctional centers across Massachusetts. We also conduct regularly retreats and precepts ceremonies for inmates.
Get Involved
We are always looking for volunteers to ensure the continuity of this impactful program. Prospective participants should have the following:
1. A commitment to their own Zen practice. You should hold five precepts, whether in KUSZ or another tradition, and have a regular meditation practice.
2. A basic familiarity with KUSZ practice forms, sitting, walking, and chanting.
3. Your own transportation. The facilities we serve are not easily accessible by public transportation. A car is a must.
4. A willingness to commit to one or two evenings a month.
For more information on how to get involved, please contact its main organizer Mark O’Leary at moleary93@gmail.com.
