GETTING STARTED

Welcome to Cambridge Zen Center! We invite you to discover the practice of Zen meditation.

Cambridge Zen Center is one of the oldest and largest Zen communities in New England, with a rich history and an important place in the development of Buddhism in America.

To help you get started, we offer a free Meditation Instruction for Newcomers class at 6:45-7:25 PM in person on Thursday evenings except on major holidays. You’ll learn the basics of Zen practice in a relaxed, supportive environment. Visit the Guidelines for details pertaining to our protocols for health and safety if you wish to visit in person. You are welcome to join us for regular morning and evening practice; only our monthly retreats require advance registration.

Public Dharma Talks are given on Thursdays at 7:30 PM where you can ask any questions you have following the introductory talk. Our talks are hybrid events with some coming in person and others joining via Zoom. We also offer hybrid long sittings on Tuesday evenings at 7:30 PM and Sunday mornings at 9:00 AM, with private interviews available with a teacher.

Our practice also includes bowing, sitting, walking and chanting. For those curious about this, please see the Kwan Um School of Zen for more resources.
