Tom Johnson, Abbot
Tom has served as abbot of Cambridge Zen Center since 2010 and works as lawyer managing offices in Boston and Farmington, CT. He began practicing Zen meditation in 1990 and is a Senior Dharma Teacher in the Kwan Um School of Zen. Tom is a longtime member of the board of directors at the Cambridge Zen Center, and has two adult children and two grandchildren.
Barbara has served on the staff of Cambridge Zen Center since becoming a resident in 2003 and has been the director since 2007. She is also a member of the Center's board of trustees. She has taught an accredited yoga program at Boston University for the past 35 years; she also leads the weekly Boston University Zen Community. Barbara is a Senior Dharma Teacher in the Kwan Um School of Zen.
Paul Laurey, House Master
Paul is a contemporary dance artist and cognitive scientist. In his second year in Cambridge, Paul performs, teaches, makes work, writes, and organizes with the Boston dance, somatic, and contemplative community. Before moving to the Zen center, Paul lived in San Diego, San Francisco, New York, and other wonderful places. He has taken ten precepts with the Kwan Um School of Zen.
Kyungha Lee, Kitchen Master
Kyungha Lee began practicing Zen in 2003 and has resided Cambridge Zen Center since 2013. She also works as an adjunct professor of communication at the State University of New York and as a yoga instructor at Boston University. She has served on the staff of the Sivananda Yoga Ranch in Woodbourne, NY as well as at the Zen Center of Syracuse, Hoen-ji, and has previously studied meditation in a number of traditions.
Jim manages the Zen center's guest program. His goal is to make your stay comfortable and inspiring.
